Bob Donlon, Neal Cassady, Allan Ginsberg, Robert La Vigne and Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Allen Ginsberg Photographer
This modern postcard features a photograph of Bob Donlon, Neal Cassady, Allan Ginsberg, Robert La Vigne and Lawrence Ferlinghetti in San Francisco in front of a bookstore.
The original image was taken in 1956 by poet Peter Orlovsky, although the reverse of the postcard credits the photograph to poet Allen Ginsberg. In the hand written note Ginsberg identify's himself as the person in the middle with the black corduroy jacket.
The notes at the bottom as near as I can make out say.
"Bob Donlon (Rob Donnelly, Kerouac's Desolation Angels,) Neal Cassady, myself in black Corduroy jacket, Bay Area poets' "Court Painter" Robert La Vigne & poet Laurence Ferlinghetti in front of his City Lights Books shop, Broadway & Columbus Avenue North Beach. Donlon worked seasonally as Vegas waiter & oft drank with Jack K., Neal looks good in teashirt, Howl first printing hadn't arrived from England yet (500 copies), we were just hanging around, Peter Orlovsky stepped back off curb & snapped shot, San Francisco Spring 1956. Allen Ginsburg"
