Scotland Map Postcard
Aleph (William Harvey) Artist
This modern reproduction postcard features a great map of Scotland by artist William Harvey (1796 - 1873). An image of the "gallant" piper representing Scotland plays the bagpipe, an instrument strongly identified with the Scots, is incorporated into the map.
In 1869, writing under the pseudonym Aleph, William Harvey created an atlas titled Geographical Fun, Humorous Maps of Serious Countries. The map depicted here was one of 12 maps in the atlas. Each map was rendered as a stereotypical personage of the country.
